New Look Back Garden, Headington

Originally an uninviting back garden with a rough lawn, concrete slab path and side beds. A fresh look was given by moving the arch, re-shaping the lawn into intersecting circles, and moving the slabs to form a stepping stone path leading through the arch to the greenhouse area. A trellis panel screens the greenhouse itself. Edging the lawns with bricks defines the circles and makes mowing easier.

The three groups of pictures show “before”, “during” and “after” construction. This garden illustrates how much can be achieved by re-using existing materials, while creating a solid design framework and an entirely new feeling to a garden. Circles are interesting and give a sense of security, while the path, arch and trellis screen draw the visitor through to explore further.

Comment from client: “I can’t believe it’s really my garden!”
